Restoring a marble fireplace in a Gramercy brownstone through custom 3D-printed pieces and finishes.

Part of the build-out of a historic Gramercy brownstone, the fireplace was deemed beyond repair by marble specialists, who recommended full demolition.

The challenge:

Missing marble details that traditional stone carving couldn’t replicate affordably or quickly.

Process:

I modeled the missing elements digitally and fabricated them through 3D printing, refining surface detail to match the original stonework.

Outcome

The final result preserved the original fireplace, avoiding costly demolition while maintaining the historic character of the home.
